Sunderland finally beaten, as Koscielny reveals injury fears and Bellerin set to leave

Afternoon Bulletin

Sunderland victory

Arsenal did what they had to do and that was to ensure they won in order to at least take the possibility of a top four finish into the final day of the season.

It took Arsenal a while to finally score, but Alexis Sanchez again popped up with the goods scoring both goals in a 2-0 win.

You do wonder how they failed to score more goals after having 63% possession and recording 36 shots, with 13 of them on target.

However, Arsenal need a small miracle to slip into the top four. Manchester City’s win against West Bromwich Albion puts them three points ahead with a much greater goal difference.

Liverpool remain one point in front, but you would imagine they will get the win required against relegated Middlesbrough.

Some weird possibility, if Arsenal draw 1-1 against Everton and Liverpool lose 2-0 it works mean a 39th match play-off between Arsenal and Liverpool for the final Champions League place. Now that would be nail biting stuff.

Wenger doesn’t want Pickford

Manager Arsene Wenger has claimed the one position that does not need strengthening is the goalkeeper. Wenger, it seems, is happy with Petr Cech, David Ospina, Wojciech Szczesny and Emiliano Martinez. The fact Wenger included Szczesny in that list may mean he still rates the Pole and we could well be seeing Szczesny back next season.

Szczesny has been in great form for Roma, where he is currently on loan, and has only conceded 33 goals in 36 games.

Emirates empty

Well maybe not empty, but certainly a fair few empty seats were clearly visible. This was despite the club announcing the attendance of 59,510.

Koscielny daily treatment

Laurent Koscielny has admitted he will require daily treatment on his Achilles injury until the end of his playing days. The 31-year-old has struggled of late and missed the Premier League match against Sunderland, although should be fit for the final match against Everton and the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Koscielny did admit, that when Arsenal have games every three days then it can be difficult, as he needs sufficient rest between games.

Barcelona set to announce Bellerin?

According to reports in Spain, the Catalan giants are set to announce the signing of right-back Hector Bellerin, who they claim is already looking for houses in the city.

It is reported that Barca will announce the signing at the same time as they announce Lionel Messi’s new contract.
