Team news for tonight’s match against already relegated Sunderland at the Emirates
Laurent Koscielny looks doubtful after picking up a calf injury. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is definitely out but Kieran Gibbs will be available. Forward Alexis Sanchez picked up a thigh injury against Stoke City and was brought off after scoring his 26th goal of the season. Sanchez will face a late fitness test but could still feature with Wenger admitting with Sanchez he never really knows.
It is another must-win game for the Gunners but you feel that after Liverpool’s mauling of West Ham that was probably our last chance of a potential slip up by either Manchester City or Liverpool. Liverpool face Middlesbrough at home on the final day of the season while City face West Bromwich Albion at home tonight followed by Watford away. It’s difficult to see our rivals slipping up with their matches.
However, manager Arsene Wenger is doing his best to stir the opposition up by claiming that teams seem on their holidays and is unfair at this part of the season, when other teams have things to play for. Of course, we have relegated Sunderland and Everton who also have nothing to play for but Wenger is clearly using some mind games. Let’s hope that doesn’t backfire and suddenly Sunderland become world beaters. Wenger’s talk of how teams are not the same as ten years ago from a moral point of view will certainly go some way into giving teams a shot in the arm to perform, let’s just hope that it is enough.
Despite the top four finish looking all but over, training has been excellent for the club with smiling faces and a relaxed atmosphere. Even Alexis Sanchez was smiling which is news in itself. There is certainly more belief and confidence seems to be growing each day which is important considering we have an FA Cup final to look forward to at the end of the month against Chelsea.
Need an official announcement
Surely now, the world’s worst kept secret, that Sead Kolasinac has signed for the club needs to be announced officially. We all know it, it’s a five-year deal, he passed a medical weeks ago, let all us fans know that the left back is coming. Of course, Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs must be sitting a little more uncomfortable at present knowing that one or both will be surplus to requirements at the end of the season.
