Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is adamant that want away forward Alexis Sanchez will stay at the
club, despite continued interest from a number of clubs. Wenger reiterated that Sanchez will be staying and the club is under no financial pressure to sell its prized asset.
Wenger has said that the Chilean has not asked to leave but does feel the player has been tapped up by one or two teams.
Chambers set to leave
One player who does seem set to leave is centre defender Calum Chambers. Chambers who had a successful loan spell at Middlesbrough last season and a good tournament with the England U21 in the summer, has been subject to a £16m bid by Premier League team Crystal Palace which was rejected by Arsenal. However, the clubs are continuing to talk and an improved bid of around £20m should see the defender leave for south London.
French centre back Laurent Koscielny has dismissed speculation of him leaving this summer after pledging his future to the club. Koscielny has admitted he has no reason to leave the club and is very happy. The Frenchman was linked with a possible move to Marseille earlier in the summer but looks set to stay at the club.
Koscielny, like so many Arsenal players of late, did take time out to praise manager Arsene Wenger, who signed a new two-year contract after months of speculation. The centre back added that Wenger has been an inspiration to him and helped him as a man too. It seems to be the same script as the majority of the first team players this summer.
Still no news
Still no news on Lucas Perez, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and a host of other players, who are set to be leaving the club. Gibbs was close but West Bromwich Albion’s bid was turned down by the club. Sampdoria continues to be mentioned alongside Wilshere, while Perez is still rumoured to be on his way to Deportivo La Coruna.
Remember Wellington Silva?
Yes, that’s the one, the Brazilian forward who was another potential world beater who failed to make a single Arsenal appearance despite being at the club for six years. Well, he has been given another chance to shine this time at Bordeaux. The Ligue 1 club have signed the forward from Fluminense subject to a medical.
After Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea in China, fans went into meltdown and despair after a disappointing display against the current Premier League champions. Arsenal certainly looked out of sorts and jaded although the illness which hit some of the players may have accounted for some of that. However, with Arsenal choosing to field a mixture of first team players and younger players the result perhaps was not a surprise. I’ve always believed in getting rid of the bad performances in pre season then perform when the season actually starts. That’s when games really matter. It’s just nice to see football is back.
