Arsene Wenger has spoken of his delight at securing three key Arsenal players to new long-term deals with the Gunners.
French trio Francis Coquelin, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny have all put pen to paper to extend their contracts providing the north London club with a major boost.
Yet superstar players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez still haven’t committed to extended deals and continue to be targets for some of the bigger clubs in European football.
Of the players who have committed more time to the Emirates outfit, Wenger said:
“We are very pleased that three important members of our team have committed to us for the long term. Francis has made tremendous technical strides over the past few years because he’s so focused every day.”
“Olivier has big experience in the game now and has become a more and more complete player since joining us. Laurent is of course a key part of our squad and I believe one of the best defenders in the world today. So overall, this is great news for us.”
Giroud is in sizzling form in front of goal at the moment and looks to get more goals for the Gunners when they travel to Swansea City on Saturday for a Premier League showdown at the Liberty Stadium. He was Arsenal’s leading scorer last season with 24 goals in all competitions.
Meanwhile, tough-tackling Coquelin provides a vital, robust influence within the Gunners’ ranks and has become established in the heart of the middle. He has made 131 appearances for the club to date
Fellow France international Koscielny would have had a good few offers to play elsewhere on the European stage and the capture of his service for a longer period is a big fillip for Wenger. No-nonsense Koscielny has made 273 appearances and scored 22 times for the Gunners.
