Arsenal future transfer targets, another fans view...

With our season over, it is time to begin thinking for the new season, they say. I know everybody loves to start with transfer targets at this period of time, so this indulgence.

First, I think we need a goalkeeper, a centre back, a winger and an experienced striker. Also if Flamini is leaving, add a defensive midfielder to the list. I do not believe Almunia is good enough to be number 1. Personally, I believe Lehmann makes more big saves in a game than Almunia. Toure and Gallas are too similar and at 32 Gallas is getting no younger. Senderos has to go. Too many chances to prove. Am sorry, but its not happening. I love Rosicky as a player but his injuries make me question his position in the team. Its not good for a team’s stability if a starting XI plays for hardly half the games for the club. Add Van Persie to the same line of argument. I don’t think Eduardo will play effectively next season. So atleast as a short term measure, get some striker. Bendtner and Walcott can start expecting 15 goals from them. Adebayor had a blinder of a season depite his misses. Will he have one again? I really doubt it.

We have been linked with Gomes of PSV. He seems good and has left us with nightmare memories from our last year’s champion’s league game. I would really be happy if we go in for him. He is a huge presence between the posts and looked agile. Boruc is another good option though may be a little more expensive.

In the centre back front, we have been linked with many. But I have always wondered about one person- Micah Richards.A great strong defender, scores goals of set pieces. His strength is the ideal foil for Toure’s style of defending, even Gallas for that matter. Moeroever, he can provide us able cover in the right back department. He is English, so if Platini’s stupidity of local player quotas goes through, it may help us. He is an Arsenal fan, especially of Arsene Wenger, so we may not have problems of him leaving the club.

Probable transfer cost- 15m pounds

A winger of a direct style, probably Simao would be ideal. We have been linked with many crossing wingers but I don’t think Wenger would look at such traditional wingers like Pedersen.

A clinical striker who could give us two seasons would be idea. Ideally, he should be a prolific player, who does not expect to start every game but can be brought on to change the game. Our options of the bench are very limited and Bendtner may be another season away. Between Bendtner and Walcott, we may do well to get 15 goals. Probably somebody like Crespo would be amazing.

Possible transfer spend- 10m pounds

Unfortunately, Diarra has left us and I expect Gilberto to leave and I see that Juventus have confirmed their interest in Flamini. A strong defensive midfielder would be required in that situation. I have been a great fan of Nigel Reo Coker and would do well as a replacement if required.

Transfer spending – 12m pounds

Total Transfer spending- 50m pounds

We could raise some money by selling some of our players, who frankly I do not feel will be a part of our season.  Senderos lacks pace and consistency to ever command a position in the team. He has been linked with Italian clubs for a long time and we could him ship him off to Italy to raise some money.

Possible transfer fee- 8m pounds

Another player who I feel might not make it at Arsenal is Diaby. He is a talented midfielder but with Fabregas in front of him he will never get enough games. Moreover, due to some unfortunate situation if Fabbie does get injured, I would rather have Hleb play through the middle.

I know I am not alone in this one but Eboue has to go. Showboating and making wrong choices when on the ball, he is a disaster. Somehow, he is in demand with various clubs. This could be easiest sell decision for Arsene yet.

Possible transfer fee- 9m pounds

Hoyte also seems ready to be shipped off to some club at his level. Raising 2m pounds out of his sale should not be very tough.

Total transfer fee earned- 25m pounds

So, in net, the club would have to spend about 25m pounds at the worst possible scenario, an expenditure which is looking more like a necessity by the day. I believe Arsene would have atleast this money on the table. I hope he is ready to take these bold decisions. I am sick of hearing about our potential. I feel very bad when our own players and team staff say we were never competing for all trophies since we never had the squad depth. If you know that address it in the pre season. But for gods’ sake do not use it as a safety net to underperform.

Moreover, if we do not spend, we may lose whatever players we have. I honestly cant see players like Hleb and Fabregas ready to accept one more trophyless season. And this team would fall apart before it could do anything.
