Breaking News - ARSHAVIN flying to London, will arrive at 2pm

The transfer saga that had more twists and turns than a belly dancer’s navel should come to an end very soon with the news from SkySports that Andrei Arshavin is currently aboard a flight from Dubai heading for Heathrow airport, he is expected to land around 2pm. The reporter from Dubai, David Livingstone confirmed my observations earlier last Saturday, that Arshavin failed to play in any of the friendlies played by Zenit against Uzbekistan National team and he missed another game yesterday.
Arshavin checked out of his hotel at around 0630 Dubai time, and the flight will take a few hours but no doubt he will spotted hopefully making his way to London Colney for a medical and then the signing? When the details and transfer are completed and ONLY THEN will Arsenal Football Club formally post the announcement on it’s website. The conclusion of the deal within hours of the end of this transfer window must be a relief for all concerned. the player is rumoured to have given in to paying back 2.5 million Euros to Zenit St Petersburg, who’s reputation will have suffered because of the games they have played. When the supposed auction lost the interest of Man City, and Tottenham didn’t come back after their failed bid in the summer, Zenit had to swallow the harsh reality, accept the deal or lose the player under a webster in the Summer.
Rumours are the stuff of many deals, but it is hard to understand why this particular transfer generated so much heat and light. Arsene Wenger remained tight lipped throughout until the final days when he gave the first indication why Arsenal needed this Russian star.

“He’s a guy who can go past people in the final third,” said the manager. “He can have the key, individually and collectively.
“He is an experienced player, 27, a good age and we are a very young side. We will not have Fabregas in the next six to eight weeks, we will not have Walcott in the next five weeks, Rosicky in the next eight weeks.
“You can see with the replay of the FA Cup we have the desire to do well in every competition and one more body could help us.”

My Revenge On Ben Foster

Even with 48 hrs to go before the end of the transfer window Arsene denied in a press conference that the club had applied for a work permit. I did not find this statement so curious in the face of such firm assertions from the media. the logical answer is either the SkySports report is erroneous and not for the first time during this transfer have we had had misinformation from all sides, or that the player could have applied for one himself – simple! One can understand the way that Arsene Wenger played his hand to the particular journalist given the behaviour of Zenit St Petersburg. The player having signalled his intention to leave come what may, tends to polarise the minds of those rich directors sponsored by Gazprom the world’s largest gas company.
The need to have a winger with some scoring ability became ever more pressing with the loss of Theo Walcott and the delay in the return of Rosicky. Arshavin is bound to unsettle defences and the question of him settling in may be helped by the anticipated Siberian like temperatures due in the UK this week.

My Song for Arshavin
Arshavin, we will sing his name,
He’ll score the goals to win the game
The Tottenham tried to sign him, don’t you know
He ‘s quicker than the speed of light

Arshavin is a real delight…
So Gooners let me hear you sing Arshaa-vin!
Oh Arshavin Oh Arshavin
Oh Arshavin
Oh Arshaaaaaa-vin

Sung to the Leonard Cohen composition “Hallelujah”

So which squad number? Well one wonders if 13 will be used until the summer when the number 10 might just be vacated…lol. Anyway despite being cup tied for the Champions League, he could just make the difference between us staying in the top four and winning say the FA Cup, such is the weight of expectation from Gooners from this possible transfer. I wish him luck!
Only hours to go we hope!
This is how Arsenalinsider has kept Gooners the world over informed and makes interesting reading…

26/12009 Negotiations on the transfer Arshavina continuing

Negotiations between FC «Zenit» and London «Arsenal» on the transfer of Andrei Arshavina continuing.  Between the clubs reached agreement in principle to move the player on terms ustraivayuschih both sides and the actual market value of a football player.
At the moment, the main obstacle in the implementation of the deal were personal requirements Andrew Arshavina. . The player and his agent asked the London club paid to guide «Arsenal» not ready to pay a football player and currently «Arsenal» agrees to comply with the requirements of the player only by reducing his transfer value.
Inturn, Andrei Arshavin did not intend to go to reduce the demands on the personal contract, and thus hinders the negotiation process, calling into question all the agreements reached between the clubs.
FC «Zenit» waives its willingness to sell the player, and continues to negotiate, offering another way out of this situation.  One possible option for reducing the transfer price Arshavina could be paid compensation for a player rastorgnuty 4-year contract.  As in 2006, when signing a contract with FC «Zenit» at the request of the player he was paid one-subscription payment for long-term rate of 5 million euros, in the early termination of the contract Andrei Arshavin can return the club half the amount (2.5 million euros) and it will be credited to the player’s transfer value.
***BREAKING NEWS UPDATE 09:30 30/1/2009***
MOSCOW, January 30 (RIA Novosti) – Andrei Arshavin is ready to pay back Zenit St. Petersburg half of a $5 million bonus he received for signing a 4-year contract in 2006 to ensure his move to Arsenal goes ahead, Sovetski Sport said Friday.
The paper cited sources “close to the player.” It is understood that the money would be added to the 15 million pounds [$21.5 million] that Arsenal have offered for the 27-year-old St. Petersburg native.
“The contract has only been half fulfilled, and therefore it is logical that he should return half of the sum to Zenit,” the club’s general director, Maxim Mitrofanov, told the paper on Wednesday.
Mitrofanov also earlier suggested that Arshavin should drop his wage demands in order to help the deal go through.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said on Wednesday evening that the Arshavin deal was “90% completed.”
“The deal is maybe 90 per cent completed. However, the final 10 per cent of any deal can be the most difficult,” he told journalists after Arsenal had drawn 1-1 with Everton.
Arshavin emerged from the shadows of Russian soccer last summer after unexpectedly leading the national side to the semi-finals of Euro 2008. He immediately became a transfer target for a number of clubs, including Spanish giants Barcelona, but Gazprom-controlled Zenit turned down bids in the region of $30 million as “too low.”
Arshavin then threatened to go on strike if he was not sold in the winter transfer window. This, coupled with the global financial crisis, saw Zenit drop their price for the forward.
