Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is a target for AFC Fiorentina a year after the Serie A side were keen on the Uruguayan.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the 25-year-old is on a three-man shortlist for the Italian club. As per the report, Torreira is ‘the coach’s preference’ as a midfield signing this summer.
Fiorentina were keen on Torreira last summer. However, an official bid never came for the former Sampdoria star. This lead to the midfielder being sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid on deadline day.
Indeed, with Torreira speaking out about his desire to leave Arsenal, Fiorentina could be an escape route. The midfielder thrived in Serie A with Sampdoria, and a return to a familiar league could be ideal.
The Gunners would be open to selling Torreira. But the midfielder will likely be another example of a player who came to Arsenal with plenty of hype only to depart at a financial loss.
As reported by Sky Sports News, the midfielder signing for £26m in 2018. And despite an impressive debut campaign, Torreira’s form fell off a cliff.
Insider View: Arsenal have to ensure Torreira is sold this summer
It’s pretty clear to both Arsenal fans and neutrals that Torreira’s time with the club is over. The midfielder was shifted out on loan last season, and now teams from Italy and South America are circling the Uruguayan.
The Gunners will take a considerable financial loss on the Latin midfielder. However, it would be best for both Arsenal and Torreira if he was allowed to permanently leave this summer.
Arsenal are taking a different direction under Mikel Arteta, and although Torreira could offer the squad something in the midfield, it is clear that the 25-year-old is eager to depart England for good.
