Report: Arsenal dealt blow in selling £17m-rated player; interested club close to alternative

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in trying to offload Hector Bellerin with Inter Milan close to signing an alternative.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Serie A champions have reached an agreement with agent Mino Raiola for PSV defender Denzel Dumfries. As per the report, Inter will negotiate a transfer fee with the Dutch club after personal terms were agreed upon.

Inter have been keen on Bellerin for the majority of the window. Moreover, with the Milanese side selling Achraf Hakimi, it was likely that the Italians would make a move for the defender.

However, Arsenal’s price tag of €20m (£17m) appears to be too high for Inter. And now, reports suggest that the Gunners are open to loaning out Bellerin rather than selling him for good.

With two years left on his current deal, Arsenal are eager to sell Bellerin this window.

And it appears that the club won’t be making a U-turn on the defender unlike what happened with Granit Xhaka. The Swiss maestro is now close to signing a new contract with the north London side.

Insider View: Arsenal have got to ensure Bellerin is sold this summer

With the Premier League season starting this week, Arsenal’s transfer business is far from done. And one could argue that selling the majority of the deadwood is what the club should be aiming to achieve.

Whilst Bellerin is a fan favourite, there’s no denying that his time with the club is at an end. And with Inter being interested in the Catalan for the majority of the summer, Arsenal are letting an interested club slip through their fingers due to their stubbornness.

We have seen Arsenal make a mistake in trying to be no pushovers in negotiations with AS Roma over Xhaka. As we know, that decision somehow led to the Gunners awarding a player who wanted to leave a new five-year deal.

Indeed, Arsenal have to ensure Bellerin walks this window. And if that means selling him for below their valuation, then that’s what has to be done if they are to avoid another questionable decision.
