Arsenal have reportedly missed out on selling Eddie Nketiah to Crystal Palace as the Eagles agree a deal for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
According to Sky Sports News, a deal to bring Nketiah to Selhurst Park is now looking extremely unlikely. Palace have reached an agreement with Celtic for Edouard, who will sign for the south London side for a fee between £15m and £20m.
The Athletic reported earlier in the window that Palace would only go as high as £10m for Nketiah. Whereas Arsenal believed they could get as much as £20m for the England U-21 captain.
The attacker has just one year left on his current deal. Arsenal have offered Nketiah new terms, but the striker rejected this proposal. The forward is just one of many players who wants to leave the club before tonight’s 11 pm deadline.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles is another player who wants to leave Arsenal and had an offer on the table. However, the club rejected the approach from Everton despite the midfielder having no real future with the north London side as reported by the Daily Mail.
Insider’s View: Arsenal have got to find Nketiah solution before deadline
Arsenal’s mismanagement of players is almost becoming a theme under Mikel Arteta.
From William Saliba to Matteo Guendouzi to Maitland-Niles, the Basque manager has burnt more bridges with players than he has made since being appointed in 2019.
And Arteta risks doing the same with Nketiah if the club can’t find a way to offload the striker today. The attacker will not play over the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season.
Nketiah is 22-years-old and at a stage in his career where he has got to be playing regular football. And his progression as a striker is in dire straits if Arsenal can’t offload the attacker in the next few hours.
