Report: Arsenal to offer European giants ‘a good deal’ to bring 28-capped wizard back to club

Arsenal are reportedly working on an offer to tempt Real Madrid into opening negotiations for playmaker Martin Odegaard.

According to AS, the Gunners are putting together ‘a good deal’ to get the ball rolling on a move for Odegaard. The 28-time Norwegian international joined Arsenal on loan in January and impressed in his time with the north London side.

Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a creative midfielder this summer. The Gunners spent the first half of this season playing without a recognised playmaker before Emile Smith Rowe was promoted into the first team and Odegaard was signed from Madrid on loan.

Unsurprisingly, the duo dramatically improved Arsenal’s fortunes. Arteta’s side won the third-most points in the Premier League since Boxing Day. And Odegaard’s form for the club could see the north London side make a permanent offer for the 22-year-old.

Odegaard’s future is in the balance, though. It is regarded that whether or not Zinedine Zidane remains at Madrid will determine where the Norwegian playmaker plays next season.

The French manager is rumoured to be leaving Los Blancos this summer after failing to win any silverware this season. Madrid also finished behind city rivals Atletico Madrid in the race for the La Liga title.

Despite scoring just two goals and registering two assists in all competitions for the Gunners, there’s no denying how much Odegaard elevated Arsenal on the pitch.

The youngster’s creative qualities have been something Arteta’s side have lacked since Mesut Ozil was dropped from the squad. Although Odegaard will likely command a big transfer fee from Madrid, the financial toll will be worth it for Arsenal.

Arteta and Edu struck gold when they signed Odegaard on loan in January, and given the playmaker’s talent and potential, the Arsenal duo will be mad not to approach Madrid and enquire if can sign the 22-year-old permanently, a move that most supporters would be on-board with.
