Mikel Arteta is eager to complete one more transfer for Arsenal before Tuesday’s deadline.
According to the Mirror, the Gunners manager is ‘keen’ to make a sixth signing this summer. Arsenal have already spent the most out of any side in the Premier League so far this window.
However, Arteta is eager to complete more business before the closure of the market. The future of Ainsley Maitland-Niles has taken a dramatic turn with the midfielder posting on his Instagram that he wants to leave the club despite reports Arsenal had rejected an offer from Everton.
Moreover, the likes of Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Willian could also leave in the coming hours. With Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac also eager to depart the north London side before deadline day.
Indeed, plenty of business has to take place before Arsenal can even consider making a sixth and final signing. The Gunners have a large squad, and trimming that down to a manageable size will be key to Arteta and Edu making one last transfer on deadline day.
Insider’s View: Sales must be the priority for Arsenal on deadline day
Arsenal have spent well over £100m this summer on new arrivals. Yet the general feel around supporters is that Arteta and Edu have wasted this money poorly, with the Gunners currently rock bottom of the Premier League table.
And this expenditure doesn’t give fans a lot of hope that deadline day will be a productive day for Arsenal. Moreover, it will likely see one or two players leave the club on loan or for cheap fees, as is the way for the Gunners.
Deadline day will be all about players leaving Arsenal. And if the Gunners can clear out a good amount of deadwood, there is a chance that a sixth signing could be made in the final hours of the transfer window.
