Vermaelen signs for Arsenal!

The most eagerly awaited news of the day has finally be announced on the official club site. Thomas Vermaelen is thought to have accepted a four year contract and will no doubt be playing pre-season.
Attention now turns to which of our centre backs will be leaving the club. If Phillipe Senderos is wanted by Fiorentia of Italy’s Serie A, could this open the door for the transfer of Felipe Melo? This is speculation of course but I can only hope. I continue to see reports that Manchester City are planning a move for Kolo Toure. Presumably to provide experience at the club, as they have decided not to go down the “Galactico” model of Real Madrid.
Are we to presume that William Gallas will stay and not go to Juventus if Toure leaves? Again speculative reports suggested that the Frenchman was planning an exit. Who really knows, please someone tell me the inside track, as it has gone very quiet on the Gallas front. If Alexandre Song is being groomed to be a centre back and Silvestre stays under contract then Arsenal will have four centre backs to rotate if we count Johan Djhourou.
Arsene Wenger said of the new signing

“Thomas is a great signing for Arsenal Football Club, and we are all delighted that he is joining us. Thomas is a solid performer with good experience of Champions League and UEFA Cup football and is also a regular with the Belgium national team.”

Thomas Vermaelen said

“I’m just so happy to be joining Arsenal. This is a great Club with a world class manager, high quality players and a fantastic stadium. Everything is set up for Arsenal to be very successful for years to come and I joined this Club because I know Arsenal will be challenging for trophies.
“I have had a good taste of the Champions League during my time with Ajax and this is something I am looking forward to experiencing again with Arsenal. I’m also looking forward to playing in the English Premier League, which for me, is the best league in the world. Also, I just want to assure the Arsenal fans that I will give everything for this Club and I hope we can enjoy winning some trophies together next season.”
