Arsene Wenger has made his second capture of the transfer window after signing Mathieu Flamini on a free.
Flamini joins France Under 20 forward Yaya Sanogo in arriving in north London after the French manager recruited the striker from Auxerre earlier in the summer.
And it is believed that the Emirates boss has also made an £8million bid for St Etienne defensive midfielder Josuha Guilavogui, 22.
Former Gunners midfielder Flamini left the club in 2008 to join AC Milan but he has made a comeback and agreed a three-year deal worth £40,000-a-week.
Flamini, 29, has been training with Arsenal during pre-season after he was released by AC Milan at the end of last term.
The deal comes just a week after Wenger played down talk of re-signing the schemer.
He said: “He is just here to work on his fitness and he does that very well. I don’t say there’s no chance and I don’t say there is a chance of signing him.”
Flamini originally joined Arsenal in 2004 and made more than 100 appearances for the club before joining the Milan giants on a free transfer.
He is the fourth player to return to Arsenal under Wenger with Sol Campbell, Jens Lehmann and Thierry Henry also doing so.
