PGL: So off we go up North today to the home of pies, a sometimes suspect pitch and a much changed Wigan side. Any game played after Europe is tricky but this one has a bit of extra difficulty… This Wigan is a better side than we think they are. If we go out with anything less than 100% we could we’ll be making the long trip home feeling glum. This week I’ve been talking to Jay T from Wigan the changes at the JJB and today’s game.
PGL: So what’s been going on at Wigan since we last met?
JAY T: There has been loads going at Latics since we were unlucky again to lose at your place. We lost Heskey, Palacios and Kilbane, but gained Rodallega, Mido and Watson. We play a very different game as well which even we don’t understand at times, so what chance has the opposition???? lol
PGL: What do Wigan fans think of Zaki’s David Copperfield impression? (and that awful shiny silver suit we saw him in on Sky Sports!)?
JAY T: He’s turning into another Henri Camara, disappearing after tournaments for days on end. But Bruce turned him around and if Zaki wants a future here he’ll have to learn to play the game. The lad certainly has ability, but he really has lost form since October and with a reputed £12 million wanted for him, I think he is very over priced.
PGL: United are continually linked with Valencia, how good is the lad?
JAY T: He’s been carrying a couple of knocks lately, but when he’s fit he’s awesome. If he is fit this weekend you’ll see, the lad will scare the shit out of your defense….
PGL: Arsenal played a difficult European fixture on Tuesday, how much effect do you that will have on the game?
JAY T: I have given up reading anything into playing teams on the back of a midweek game, hard or not. Arsenal has a huge squad to cope with the demands of a season and they usually are up for every game. But they have gone missing in parts of this season which means that it can always happen again. I know that’s a bit rich seeing as you’re on an 18 match unbeaten run, it sort of implies Wenger has turned it around now, but we live in hope…
PGL: You lost Heskey and Palacious in the window, are you playing a different style of footie since we last met?
JAY T: Totally, we are still trying to find our best system as it was a big loss losing Palacios especially. We now are having to pass it around rather than bang it up to the big man to hold and lay off. Mido and Rodallega haven’t yet to hit off, but our midfield is now sorting itself out.
PGL: Where do you expect the key battles to be?
JAY T: We will have to fight this out in midfield, its a pity Catters isn’t going to playing in this as it is a game that is made for him, but Brown with hustle whilst Watson and Valencia will create.
PGL: Only the top four and Everton have conceded less than Wigan this season, will your defense be able to handle an on form Adebayor?
JAY T: As you’ve said, we have had a great defense this term and Everton apart have been very solid. Titus and Boyce are forming a formidable pairing at the back and Adebayor will HAVE to be at his best to thwart them.
PGL: And finally, what’s your prediction for the game?
JAY T: As long as Alan Wiley plays it fair and we don’t have another nightmare like at Everton last week, we should be able to get something out of the game. Lets face it, the matches between our two teams are usually of the highest standard and I feel we have been unlucky (Phil Dowd) on a couple of occasions. We need our strikers to find some form and they are due, so we could finally put this daft record we have against the ‘top four’ and bag us a narrow win… 2-1 I’ll go for, to Latics.
PGL: So there that’s the view from the Latics. As I said earlier I think the only thing that will beat us today is complacency. There has been talk of nabbing 3rd place lately and to do that we must keep this run going. Hopefully the return of Arshavin to the first 11 will help some of the tired legs and we’ll attack with the same sort of threat we showed against City. It will be interesting to see who replaces Clichy. I’d imagine AW will go with Silvestre though Gibbs has done very well of late. Losing Gallas is a terrible blow but in JD we have an able replacement, Fabianski will get another chance to prove himself but lets hope he isn’t all that busy! PGL goes for 1-3 to the Arsenal… Enjoy the game.
