Arsenal Told to Decide About Benayoun
Arsenal have been informed by Chelsea that they need to make a swift decision over whether they want to sign Yossi Benayoun on a permanent deal or not. (The Daily Mail)
Benayoun, who spent the 2011/12 season on loan at Arsenal, impressed during his time in North London and scored six goals in 25 matches. But his loan deal is coming towards its end, meaning that he will soon return to his parent club Chelsea.
The Israeli international made Arsenal’s starting line-up in all of their last three league matches and found the back of the net twice in the crucial run of fixtures that secured the Gunners’ Champions League qualification for next season.
In spite of Benayoun’s impressive performances in Arsenal shirt, coach Arsene Wenger isn’t sure if he should bring the 32-year-old midfielder back to Emirates Stadium.
Juventus to End RVP Chase
Newly crowned Serie A champions Juventus are all set to give up on their chase of Arsenal captain Robin van Persie, according to new reports emerging from Italy. (The Daily Mail)
Van Persie has been on the wish list of both Manchester City and Juve, but it seems that the latter have decided to end their desire of landing the Dutchman, as they believe he has already agreed to sign for some other team. The Old Lady will now try to recruit one of Edin Dzeko, Gonzalo Higuain and Edinson Cavani.
The reason of Juve’s withdrawal is expected to further intensify media speculation that van Persie would reunite with his former Arsenal teammates Samir Nasri, Gael Clich and Kolo Toure at Etihad Stadium this summer.
Diame to Reject Arsenal and Others for Malaga
Wigan Athletic’s defensive midfielder Mohamed Diame is set to reject interest from Arsenal in order to join the rich La Liga club Malaga. (The Daily Mail)
The 24-year-old Senegalese player’s current contract with the Latics expires on June 30, after which he will be free to sign for anyone. His contract status and some eye-catching performances towards the end of the season have put him on the radar of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Aston Villa, but he is reportedly favouring a free transfer move to the Spanish club Malaga.
In addition to the aforementioned quartet, Manchester United were also interested in recruiting Diame but his heart condition prevented them from making a move for him.
Arsenal’s Campbell Satisfied With Ligue 1 Experience
Arsenal starlet Joel Campbell has expressed satisfaction at the way his loan spell at Ligue 1 club Lorient went and believes that the experience he gained during his time in France will prove vital in his long-term footballing education.
The 19-year-old Costa Rican forward was loaned out by the Gunners to Lorient for the 2011/12 season, during which time he showed enough glimpses of his raw talent. He played 25 matches for the French club and scored four goals in those outings.
Campbell, who is now set to return to his parent club before the next BPL season, told “Coming to Lorient has been really good for me. It’s a new experience for me to come and get a taste of French football, which is very competitive. I’ve learnt a lot here.”
“Football in France is very tactical, very tough and very physical. It’s been great for me, though. I’ve learnt a lot from the football here and I hope it helps me for my career. I’ve learnt a lot of things from being in a relegation battle: mental strength and the unity we need to have to avoid relegation. These are tough times and for a player like me who’s just starting out it’s a great experience,” he added.
