Wenger Confirms Interest in Lyon’s New ‘Samir Nasri’
Arsene Wenger has likened Clement Grenier to former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri and confirmed that he is interested in bringing the Lyon youngster to Emirates Stadium.
Grenier, 22, whose ability from dead ball situations has also seen him compared to OL legend Juninho, enjoyed a breakout season this term and is now attracting interest from several top European clubs.
In an interview with Telefoot, Wenger said: “We are following him, I like the intelligence of his play. He has interesting qualities, if anyone, he reminds me of Nasri,” admitted the Arsenal boss.
Podolski Wants Arsenal Stay
Lukas Podolski has made it clear that he is ‘completely’ happy at Arsenal and won’t be seeking a transfer to another club this summer.
The 27-year-old German scored 16 goals in his debut season for the Gunners but was constantly deployed in an unfamiliar position on the left wing by Arsene Wenger. He also rarely got to play full 90 minutes in the second half of the season, fuelling speculation that he might want to leave at the end of the season.
However, the player himself has discarded those rumours about his future and clarified that he is staying at Emirates Stadium.
In an interview with Spox, Podolski said: “I feel very comfortable and I am completely satisfied with my first year in England. I have no intention to leave the club. Rumours are rumours and I cannot stop them.”
Moyes Preparing £25Million Bid For Fabregas
Newly appointed Manchester United manager David Moyes is close to submitting a £25million offer for Barcelona flop Cesc Fabregas, according to The Sunday Express.
As a result of Paul Scholes’ retirement, Anderson’s ineffectiveness and Darren Fletcher’s health issues, Moyes has decided to bring in a new midfield playmaker, and Fabregas fits the bill.
Barca could be willing to do business as they need cash to invest in other more troublesome areas of their squad, and it is believed that the player himself wants to leave due to limited playing opportunities at Camp Nou Stadium.
Arsenal purportedly have the first refusal option on Fabregas, but it is unclear whether they would be interesting in signing him back as they already have Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere playing the midfield playmaker role for them.
Frimpong Out Again
Emmanuel Frimpong is out for the next two months after going under the knife to repair yet another knee injury.
The fiery 21-year-old midfielder has suffered two serious knee injuries in the last three years and picked up his third one – although of lesser magnitude – last weekend while playing on loan for Fulham against Swansea.
“We wish Manny the best of luck in his recovery,” a message on Arsenal.com read.
Gunners Lose Wynter to Robins
Young Arsenal midfielder Jordan Wynter has rejected the club’s offer of a contract extension and agreed to join League One-bound Bristol City.
Wynter, 19, turned pro with the Gunners last summer but failed to break into the club’s first-team squad, and therefore, he decided to join the Robins on a two-year deal to further his footballing education.
