Gibbs Hails ‘World-Class’ Ozil

Kieran Gibbs is sure that his new Arsenal teammate Mesut Ozil  is capable of propelling the club ‘to the next level.’

The Gunners suffered a number of failures in their pursuit of World Class players in the summer transfer window, but they managed to pull off the biggest one by landing the German player from Real Madrid on deadline day in a club-record £43million deal.

Such a huge outlay on a single player is very un-Arsenal like, but Gibbs believes that it would pay off handsomely in the years to come.

In an interview with Arsenal Player, he said: “It is a statement to what the club want to do and what the club want to achieve. It is something that everyone has been waiting for so now we have a big signing to help push us to the next level.

“He has got a clinical side to him and technically he is world-class. He is going to create a lot of problems for opposition we come up against and hopefully he can continue the form that he had with Real Madrid.”

Wenger’s Straight Talk Convinced Ozil of Joining Arsenal

Mesut Ozil has criticised his former club Real Madrid for not having enough faith in his abilities and revealed it was Arsene Wenger’s straight talk which convinced him that joining Arsenal would be the right career move for him.

Die Welt have quoted the new Gunner as saying: “Somehow this telephone call just flicked a switch in me. I thought: ‘What he is telling me is what I have missed at Real: transparency, trust, respect. He told me exactly how he sees me [as a player], how he wants to use me, what he expects from me and what he hopes I will contribute.”

About his plans for his new club, he said: “I want to win titles and will do everything in order to do that. That is my mentality. We will do everything to get as far as possible in all the competitions. I learned that at Real. I don’t go into any competitions saying: ‘The aim us to reach the semi-finals or the final.’ When I play, I want to win.”

Fabregas Tips Ozil’s ‘Final Pass’ to Wreak Havoc in PL

The Barcelona playmaker believes that Ozil thrives when given space to work in opposition half, and he’ll get plenty of that in the Premier League.

Having already tipped the German to ‘be great for Arsenal’ a few days ago, Fabregas this time offered a more technical insight, saying: “He’s going to enjoy the Premier League a lot. It’s a league with a lot of space and he is a player who can kill you when he has space.

“He has a brilliant final pass and I think the Premier League is going to enjoy him very much. I think he will nail it at Arsenal.”

Success Will Be Sweeter Than Normal For Gunners, Claims Arsenal CCO

Arsenal FC’s chief commercial officer, Tom Fox, has claimed that any success the Gunners garner in return of their club-record spending would be sweeter and more satisfying for their fans as their club have earned their own money instead of relying on sugar daddies’ billions like some of their competitors do. (Telegraph)

In an interview with Marketing Week, Fox said: “When we win, we will win on the back of our own effort, on the back of our own hard work and revenue that we as a club generate based on our power as a global brand. We won’t win on the back of a wealthy benefactor reaching into his pocket and solving the problem that way.

“We believe, and I think our fans believe, that success earned in the way that we’re going about it, in a very difficult landscape and a very challenging business, is the sweeter victory. We don’t exist for commercial purposes, we exist as a football club, to play football matches, to win and to make our fans feel proud.”

Marica’s Arsenal Move Close, Claims Agent

Arsenal are  set to sign their third free transfer signing of this summer in the form of Romania international Ciprian Marica. (Express)

The 27-year-old forward, who is capable of playing anywhere across the frontline, left Schalke at the end of last season due to the expiration of his contract. He attracted initial interest from Serie A duo Inter Milan and Lazio, as well as Shakhtar Donetsk, but a deal didn’t materialise.

Unable to recruit a new striker this summer, coach Arsene Wenger could use someone like Marica, and his agent, Ioan Becali, claims discussions in this regard are already in advanced phase.

Prosport.ro have quoted him as saying: “Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eyeing his career.

“He’s close to joining Arsenal, but we have to wait for the next week.”

It is believed that West Ham are also interested in recruiting the player although the Gunners clearly have the edge.
