Arsene Wenger faces a battle with Real Madrid next summer over the capture of teenage Lille forward Eden Hazard.
That’s the claim in the Mirror this morning which says Madrid director of football Zinedine Zidane has also put Hazard at the top of his hit-list
As for tonight’s CL game against Olympiakos at the Ems, we will now be missing Laurent Koscielny, Theo Walcott and Gervinho – so Alex Song will partner Per Mertesacker in central defence.
Elsewhere AW has given the Mail an update on Jack Wilshere’s injury. He said: “He will be 12 weeks in a boot and after that it is rehab. Twelve weeks brings us to around Christmas. If all goes well, you would think he will be fit again to play in half the time you are in the boot – six weeks. Count 10 to be closer to the truth, so it’s 22 weeks.”
He was asked if he regreted taking Wilshere on Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Malaysia and China and replied: “We made a scan before we left and it was all right. This crack in the bone became worse and worse. It didn’t heal because there is no blood supply so it doesn’t glue together any more. We had to put a screw in.
“When you see the scan it looks like a little hole in the bone. We needed to screw that together because it would not heal. When he was in the boot it did not get better, it can be worse.”
The Metro, meanwhile, claims AW has tried to play down fears over skipper Robin Van Persie’s contract situation, but hinted the Dutchman is stalling over signing a new deal.
