According to Football London, Arsenal have bolstered their scouting department by hiring three new scouts, including Toni Lima from Deportivo Alaves.

The Gunners famously sacked the club’s entire scouting department last year. The likes of Francis Cagigao, who unearthed players like Cesc Fabregas and Gabriel Martinelli, was shown the door, much to the anger of Arsenal fans.

About a year later, Arsenal seem to have realised that scouts are a major part of recruitment. Edu has gone out and hired three people now, but one of them will make all the headlines thanks to his previous accomplishments.

Arsenal hire Toni Lima as first-team scout

Lima, 50, is regarded as one of the best scouts in the world. He has previously worked at clubs like Inter Milan and Manchester United, and Arsenal view him as someone who can unearth a few gems for us.

The former Andorra international is best known for his work in South America. He was reportedly the man who discovered Neymar and Philippe Coutinho, and he brought both players to Europe for the very first time.

If Lima can find young players for Arsenal who can go on to become the new Neymar’s and Coutinho’s of the world, we shouldn’t have too many problems on the transfer market with respect to young players in the coming years.

Arsenal hire two more scouts

Edu has also appointed Romain Poirot as a first-team scout and he will keep a close eye on French football. Arsenal have a rich history of signing talented players from France, and it seems like that will continue.

Poirot, like Lima, spent time at Manchester United as a scout. He also worked for Arteta’s former employers City for a while, and he too is highly rated in and around the game.

Earlier this summer, Arsenal brought in James Ellis from Fulham as well. He was the Cottagers’ first-team scout and he is set to focus on the domestic market for the Gunners for the foreseeable future.

All three scouts will report to our technical director, Edu.
