Arsenal 1-2 Watford: Man of the Match

Once again, retuning to Premier League football after an international break has changed our fortunes from before the break.
After the last break, which followed the 4-0 embarrassment at Liverpool, we went on without losing a single game until October’s break (winning six games and drawing once, against champions, Chelsea).
With some of the players only coming back from international duty in midweek, we probably shouldn’t have expected too much from Saturday’s game but then again, there weren’t many stand out performers.
Alex Iwobi had a relatively decent game playing as the more creative option behind the striker. Going forward the 21 year old was pretty tidy as he popped up in various spots in the final third as well as having the possibility of winning the game, but unfortunately his shot was tipped behind by Gomes in the Watford goal.
Our best performer on the day was probably Per Mertesacker, who was making his first Premier League start in over a year. The Big Friendly German hardly put a foot wrong for the majority of the game as he made up for his lack of pace with his positioning as he made interception after interception.
He then opened the scoring with a bullet header, however, even though he was our best player on the day he didn’t do enough to prevent Tom Cleverley’s late winner after taking a tumble with Troy Deeney.
Hopefully we can bounce back against Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League on Thursday.
