Arsenal Players Forget Their Energy Drinks Before Carabao Cup Final

Considering the League Cup is now sponsored by some energy drink thing, maybe they should’ve made it mandatory for all the players to chug a can before the match. The City players seemed to consume theirs, but I guess Arsenal didn’t get the message. After a dreadful and sluggish performance, here’s how the players did…

David Ospina – 4

City had 3 shots on target and 3 goals. He should’ve gotten back to the goal line on the first one, couldn’t do too much about the second, and left the far post open on the third one. His distribution was poor all day, misplacing 20 of his 39 passes.

Hector Bellerin – 5

He didn’t do too much to help stop Sane and co. on his side of the pitch, getting dribbled on 3 times. He wasn’t able to get forward much.

Calum Chambers – 5.5

Probably our best defender on the day. He was doing well to make interceptions and clearances until he got turned for that third goal which was eerily similar to the Ostersunds FK goal he conceded.

Shkodran Mustafi – 3.5

If there was a college course called “How Not To Defend 101”, his mistake on the first goal would be the first video shown. He let Aguero behind him, then went on to complain about offsides (which isn’t even possible on a goal kick). He didn’t seem to ever recover from that error.

Laurent Koscielny – 5

The captain wasn’t very “captain-ly” on the day. I know it’s not his thing to yell and shout at his teammates, but don’t give him the armband then. His defending was average.

Nacho Monreal – 5

He wasn’t really able to make an impact before coming off with an injury in the 26th minute. He clearly has a lingering issue that probably won’t be addressed until summer because of how much Wenger dislikes Kolasinac as a left-back…or maybe Maitland-Niles will return again?

Aaron Ramsey – 4.5

When you get a limited amount of time on the ball you have to make that time count, yet he only completed 65% of his passes. No cup hero talk this year…

Granit Xhaka – 5.5

He did well on the defensive end for once with a few interceptions and clearances, although that was probably inevitable because of how often City was in our final third. His passes couldn’t lead to anything.

Mesut Ozil – 4.5

You know you deservedly got smashed when you’re beaten in the key passes department 9-2. Neither of those 2 was Ozil’s as that early ball to Aubameyang likely would’ve been called offside by VAR. He didn’t do much of anything really.

Jack Wilshere – 5.5

He was certainly trying hard, to begin with, distributing the ball well and completing 5 dribbles. But, I can see past the “Angry Jack” facade that some fans love to call “passion for the club” and then use to excuse his bad performances. He couldn’t make a mark on the game and was frustrated.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 4.5

Even if that first chance he got would’ve been offside, I still would’ve liked to see him put it away from that close. City effectively cut him off from our midfield (other teams have done this to us as well, which is why Lacazette always had to drop deep to pick up the ball). He had slim pickings today but he should’ve capitalised on at least one of the chances.

Sead Kolasinac – 5

I was fairly nervous for him when he came on for Monreal early on, but he did his best playing in defence for the majority of the game. Nothing spectacular, just an average performance.

Danny Welbeck – eh, what’s the point

Showed some fight is about all I can say. Made little to no impact. Only had 13 touches.

Alex Iwobi – same as above

Made little to no impact just like Welbeck. Only had 8 touches.
