Arsenal vs Doncaster Man of the Match

Man of the Match Arsenal Insider

Last night’s expected win saw us progress into the next round of the Carabao Cup where we’ll meet Norwich City, but who stood out in our first appearance in the competition this year against Doncaster Rovers?

It might not have been a jaw dropping performance from the team as a whole, only managing to score the one goal, but there were a few players who put in some notable performances.

One player that had a decent game yesterday was Theo Walcott. Minutes have been hard to come by for him so far this season but nevertheless he did well to bag his first goal of the season with a neat chip over the Doncaster keeper. His night could’ve gotten better had he put away two more chances but in the end the one he tucked away was enough.

Someone who played particularly well last night was Alexis Sanchez. Getting into his groove before properly being reintegrated into the Premier League, Sanchez put in a bright performance last night. Adding to his goal from last week, this time out the Chilean again came up with something special to hand the win over to Arsenal. This time it was a ball over the top of the Doncaster defence which fell perfectly to Theo Walcott before he chipped the keeper to open the scoring.

The man of the match last night, making his first start for Arsenal in over a year was Jack Wilshere. Throughout the game we saw flashes of what we’ve been missing at the Emirates in his absence, from the slick one-touch passing moves and cheeky passes into the box, one of which setting Giroud up for an overhead kick that could only hit the crossbar, as well as shooting from range which we don’t often see from him. It really was a great display from Wilshere who will look to be challenging for Premier League places in the coming weeks.

But hopefully I write a bit more often than Arsenal win Premier Leagues!
