The Loan Report: Martinez Keeps A Clean Sheet

The Loan Report

A mixed bag for the Arsenal loanees as Takuma Asano played his second match of the season, while Stephy Mavididi had little time to make an impression. Emiliano Martinez and Marc Bola only made the bench and failed to feature.

Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez was an unused substitute for his new loan club Getafe who played Athletico Bilbao at the weekend. The game finished 0-0.

Martinez is very highly thought of by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who sees the talented goalkeeper as Arsenal’s future number one. Game time will certainly benefit the keeper this season.

Takuma Asano

Takuma Asano played the whole match for Stuttgart as they took on Hertha Berlin. Unfortunately,  Stuttgart went down two goals to nil, with the Japanese forward unable to find a breakthrough.

Asano had previously played in the DFB Cup first-round match against Energie Cottbus. Stuttgart winning the match on penalties 4-3 after the match had ended 2-2 after Extra time. Asano played for 55 minutes before being substituted.

Asano played 27 times last season for Stuttgart scoring four goals in the German Second tier.

Marc Bola

Marc Bola has been an unused sub in every match so far for Bristol Rovers as they beat Bury away at the weekend 3-2. Bola is highly regarded at Arsenal and can play left back or centre back.

Stephy Mavididi

Stephy Mavididi only start so far for Preston North End was against Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup where he lasted 53 minutes before being substituted. Mavididi did come on at the weekend in the 88th minute against Reading as Preston won the game 1-0. The forward had little time to make an impact.

Preston have high hopes for the talented youngster who scored 20 goals in 40 appearances for Arsenal U23’s. Mavididi was on loan last season with Charlton Athletic but returned to Arsenal after picking up an injury with the London side.

Carl Jenkinson & Cohan Bramall

Carl Jenkinson and Cohen Bramall have both joined Birmingham City on loan for the rest of the season. Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp has been keen to add numbers to his squad.  Jenkinson played just five times for the Gunners last season, while Bramall is yet to feature for the club, although made some impressive performances during pre-season.

Loan Rumours

Celtic are showing an interest in Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom with a view to a loan move. Akpom was part of the Brighton squad that gained promotion to the Premier League last season. Akpom will be hoping to gain more playing time if the loan move to Celtic comes off. Leeds United are also monitoring the situation.
