The Scout Report: Adrien Rabiot

The Scout Report

The transfer window may be over but Arsenal are still being linked with players.

While talk of a move for Julian Draxler has been rife, there are also rumours of a move for his PSG teammate, Adrien Rabiot.

The 22-year-old central midfielder’s contract expires in the summer of 2018 and with competition for places in the French capital, he could decide to move on.

Arsene Wenger’s side appear to be at the head of the queue if reports are to be believed, but what would Arsenal be getting?

During his youth career, Rabiot floated around a number of clubs, including a spell with Manchester City in 2008 before settling with PSG in 2010.

The Frenchman made his debut for the Parisians in 2012 and spent a 13-game loan spell with Toulouse in the second half of the 2012/13, scoring once.

He has often struggled for game time with PSG despite his talent but became more of a regular in the side under Unai Emery last season, impressing in the middle of the park.

Rabiot’s role as a tempo dictating midfielder is evident by his stats from the 2016/17 campaign.

His 90% pass completion his hugely impressive and would see him slot perfectly in Arsenal’s system while his defensive stats would bring an added element to the Gunners.

Winning 43 tackles and losing just 48 for PSG last season highlights his qualities sitting in front of the back four, as does his 37 interceptions, 32 clearances, and 14 blocks.

His qualities on the front foot are slightly less impressive with just 12 key passes and 14 chances created in 27 games but his 66% successful take-ons his very good.

Despite his obvious importance to the defensive aspect of PSG’s notoriously attacking style he still chipped in with three goals and two assists.

In six games this season, Rabiot appears to have retained his defensive qualities while also making improves in the final third.

Somehow he has managed to improve on his incredible pass accuracy, completing 94% of his passes thus far while also improve his take on percentage to 71%.

Rabiot has created six chances and completed five key passes putting him on course to easily surpass his numbers from last season.

One goal and one assist so far should also see his productivity improve from last season.

Valued at £16 million on transfermarkt, PSG would likely demand a huge fee for Rabiot as the impressive young midfielder has his best years firmly ahead of him.

If the 22-year-old midfielder is to leave Paris, Arsenal would face serious competition for his signature such is his talent.

I am a big fan of Adrien Rabiot and would love to see him in an Arsenal shirt because of the qualities he provides.

A defensive minded midfielder who provides a calming presence but can also contribute going forward is exactly what Arsene Wenger side needs and with many years ahead to improve an already impressive Rabiot is only going to get better.
