Weekly Loan Report: January 2-8

The Loan Report

Takuma Asano // VfB Stuttgart

Stuttgart’s first match after the winter break occurs on January 13th at home against Hertha Berlin.

Marc Bola // Bristol Rovers FC

As they were eliminated early from the FA Cup, Bristol Rovers had a week off as their match against Wigan Athletic was postponed. Their next match is January 13th away at Blackpool.

Cohen Bramall // Birmingham City FC

The 21-year-old did not make the matchday squad as the Blues claimed a much-needed 2-0 win away from home against Reading. With his continuing difficulties to supplant Jonathan Grounds as the first team left back, Bramall has much to do in the second half of the season to work his way into Steve Cotterill’s plans.

Joel Campbell // Real Betis

The Costa Rican international, according to Spanish outlets, appears to have entered the final stages of his rehabilitation from arthroscopic surgery on his repaired knee. If everything goes according to projected medical deadlines, he could return by late February or early March, enough to regain match fitness before the World Cup.

Carl Jenkinson // Birmingham City FC

According to several national press outlets, it appears that the 25-year-old right back will return to Arsenal this month. Wenger obviously hoped that he would have made more appearances for the Championship club but a dislocated shoulder kept him out for four months. If reports are correct, Arsenal will exercise their recall clause and preferably loan him out again in hopes of gaining more playing time. For now, he will continue his rehabilitation at Birmingham until his future is resolved.

Emiliano Martinez // Getafe CF

The Argentinian goalkeeper made his first league start of the season as Getafe lost 0-2 away to Atletico Madrid. It is hard to fault him for both goals as poor defending led to easy opportunities for the home side, though he will culpable for the first one due to some suspect positioning. Despite conceding two goals, he distributed the ball well and made some strong saves. With Vicente Guaita rumored to be making a permanent move to either Watford or Crystal Palace in the coming days, it is up to him to lay claim to first-team minutes.

Stephy Mavididi // Charlton Athletic

The 19-year-old forward had a debut to remember, scoring the only goal in Charlton Athletic’s 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic. He was able to use his pace and skill to beat two opponents before wrong-footing the keeper with a clean shot at the near post. Additionally, Mavididi made a 64’ substitute appearance in their EFL Trophy match against Oxford United, losing on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Kelechi Nwakali // VVV-Venlo

VVV-Venlo’s first match after the winter break occurs on January 20th away at ADO Den Haag.

Lucas Perez // Deportivo La Coruna

A minor back injury left Lucas out of the matchday squad as Deportivo drew 1-1 with Villareal. With later evaluations coming up negative, he will likely return for their January 13th match against Valencia.
