Arshavin shines as Gunners enjoy 4-0 romp

Jay Simpson hit a double as Arsenal saw off Barnet with a 4-0 win in a friendly at Underhill this afternoon. Andrey Arshavin opened the scoring after a minute and Samir Nasri hit the fourth as AW’s men cruised to victory against a spirited Bees outfit.
Marouane Chamakh, the new signing from Bordeaux who scored 56 times for the French side in 230 outings, made his debut for Arsenal in the second half. And although he didn’t find the back of the net, he looked eager, very lively, strong and determined. Another new face in the Gunners line-up was was central defender Laurent Koscielny and while he didn’t exactly dazzle, he looked comfortable against a limp home attack.
Arshavin led Barnet a merry dance in the first half and notched after a slick one-two with Tom Rosicky and that set the standard with the No.23 showing blistering pace and quick feet to bamboozle the Bees.
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas had a pile-driver beaten away after four minutes before Simpson made it 2-0 following good work from Jack Wilshere which set him up and he slotted home calmly from inside the box.
Arshavin hit the bar with a curling right-footed effort just three minutes from the break and should have made it 3-0. But Jay Simpson did just that a minute later when he slotted home after a great run from Arshavin and a slick pass from Wilshere.
Gibbs was impressive during his 45 minutes and on this form he could push Clicjy all the way for the left-back slot.
