AW eyes Yaya Toure (Part 558)

We’re not quite in the doldrums as far as Arsenal coverage goes ahead of the international weekend but we aren’t far off, folks. But there are a few tales pertaining to the glorious Gunners to bring you not least of which is the Daily Mail’s yarn that both Arsenal and Manchester United have both lodged an interest in signing Yaya Toure from Barcelona at the end of the season.
The paper says Toure signed a new contract last year, convinced he was central to Pep Guardiola’s long-term plans but has only made four La Liga appearances this season.
The Mail adds that Barcelona have made public their intention to target midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Javier Mascherano, leaving Toure, who will represent Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations in January, to concede his career at the Nou Camp is certain to end in the summer.
It claims that Arsenal, United  and Inter Milan have all asked Toure’s agent Dmitri Seluk to keep them informed about developments. Manchester City are also interested but Toure will not join them, even though his brother Kolo is the captain at Eastlands.
‘If he does leave Barca, he will not go to Manchester City because he will sign for a bigger club,’ said Seluk.
Still on Cesc, the Sun claims that Xavi wants the Arsenal skipper Cesc to join him at Barcelona (You don’t say!).
The redtop says Fabregas is regularly linked with a return to the club where he started his career. And Xavi believes his fellow Spaniard would make the ideal midfield partner — before eventually succeeding him as Barca’s playmaker.
The 29-year-old said: “I wish Cesc was my successor and a team-mate. The more players that come and be associated with me, the better. Good players have to be understood in the field.
“If Cesc comes it will be good. I would like it because I would enjoy playing alongside him. He is very good and also has the DNA of Barca. He is able to make the final pass in attack.”
The same paper says AW is are keeping tabs on Barcelona’s speedy winger Gai Assulin. The 18-year-old, who made his Israel debut at 16, snubbed a move to Chelsea in 2007, but has stalled over signing the new deal on offer to him at the Nou Camp.
The Daily Star reports that we will revive their interest in whizzkid Victor Moses after cash-strapped Crystal Palace slashed their £5m asking price.
The paper says AW has tracked the Eagles forward, 19, for two years and came close to snaring him in August 2008.
But the Gunners baulked at the original fee and were only prepared to fork out £1m plus add-ons for a player they saw as unproven.
However, AW has supposedly kept a close eye on Moses’ progress at Selhurst Park and will make a renewed attempt to lure him across London in January.
Eagles chairman Simon Jordan is so desperate to boost the club’s ailing coffers that he has lowered Moses asking price by a whopping £4m.
Palace have been hit with two transfer embargoes and failed to fulfil their  financial obligations to players twice this season, fuelling fears they are on the brink of administration.
That’s it for now but I’ll keep trawling and bring you any other Arsenal news I can find.
