ARSENAL in white — we’re not Tottenham! That’s the argument from many Gooners today as the club unveiled the new third kit.
And with the shorts a kind of slate grey there is no doubt that the entire strip has more of N17 than N5 about it.
But it’s an argument that is a little worn around the edges as we’ve played in white before. Of course, regulars to arsenalinsider knew only too well that our kit was going to be white as they got a sneak peak at it first on this site as early as April. Yet another exclusive for the one-stop site for Arsenalistas the world over.
So what of the new kit? Well, it resembles the design of our blue away kit in as much as it has pinstripes and a polo neck collar. A move towards the leisure shirt market there, without doubt.
The official Nike blurb tells us “As with all Gunners replica kits, the shirt is made from Nike’s innovative Dri-Fit fabric, which keeps players drier, cooler and lighter by drawing sweat from the body to the fabric’s surface, while it’s three-dimensional construction gives more air space around the skin to reduce clinging.” So it’s a football shirt, then!
Whatever the details, the reality is that the marketing bods with an eye on revenue streams know only too well that these kits will sell and turning them out every season is essential to keep the tills ringing.
And anyway, you don’t have to buy the shorts!
