Premiership Fixtures - First draft 2009/10 season

It’s almost pre-season and at last today there is something of substance to write about. The Barclays Premier league 2009/10 campaign kicks off with Arsenal playing away at Everton on 15th August  on the first weekend. The first home game would have been against Bolton, but having finished fourth, there is the none too simple matter of a Champions league Qualifier to deal with. There were many last minutes changes and some leaks that were on the net earlier on in the week are bound to look just a little silly now. Even allowing for the last minute changes, the 38 fixtures are bound to be changed further around with Saturday big games like Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool being changed to the corresponding Sunday for Sky TV.
The Setanta schedule of 46 games may not exist if the broadcaster fails to pay the £20 million owed to the Premier league by Friday of this week. If Setanta loses those rights, then could we even see an interesting auction between American Disney owned sports channel ESPN and possibly Virgin Media taking place? Virgin appears keen to increase it’s standing in the Digital broadcasting world, and having live Premiership fixtures could be the way to take it forward. It is expected that the sale of the rights would go for less than the £100 million making it more attractive.
So here are the Fixtures as released on Arsenal.com and remember, these are likely to be subject to change depending upon outcomes of Cup competitions etc.
