The Insider View: Arsenal's reported £7m valuation of talented youngster is confusing

Another day, another report about an Arsenal player potentially leaving the club after Konstantinos Mavropanos was linked with a move away.

According to football.london, the Greece international is set to complete a transfer to Stuttgart for just £7m.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with the Bundesliga outfit, impressing throughout. He featured in 22 games across all competitions.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

His form in March saw him earn a nomination for the rookie of the month award.

However, it seems Mavropanos is set to secure a move away from Arsenal in what is wretched news.

It’s not the transfer away that is the problem, but, the manner in which it has occurred.

Selling a player, who is yet to receive a chance proves an incredibly baffling decision.

Since joining the Gunners in 2018, every single one of Mavropanos’ opportunities have come under Arsene Wenger and Freddie Ljungberg.

He has yet to feature under Unai Emery or Mikel Arteta with the latter . And given how bad Arsenal been in defence over the last few seasons it proves a confusing decision.

As a matter of fact, the north London giants are in talks over a move for Brighton’s Ben White. A simple comparison between the two shows that Mavropanos is the stronger player.

The Greek centre-half averaged more tackles, interceptions and clearances per game than the Englishman.

However, the biggest issue is the club’s valuation of the youngster. £7m proves a woeful asking price for someone, who proved to be a standout player for Stuttgart last season.

Selling a talented centre-back without offering him a chance is baffling.

But, selling him for a mere £7m is easily one of the most confusing decisions ever.

The defender is worth far more with the recent reports showing off Arsenal’s lack of nous in the transfer market.
