Reports this afternoon have linked Arsenal with a move for Internazionale ace Lautaro Martinez.
What’s the story?
According to The Telegraph, the Gunners have made an enquiry for the centre-forward.
Mikel Arteta wants to add a new number nine to the first-team squad this summer.
He’s looked at the South American among a number of forwards in a bid to strengthen his attack.
Inter want to keep the ace and offer him a new deal with his current one expiring in 2023.
Lacazette and Nketiah futures remain a doubt
The futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have been under question during the off-season.
Both players have less than a year left on their current contracts and could leave this window.
Arsenal need to be realistic in the transfer targets amid Martinez links
This summer is a precious window for the Gunners.
They were handed a reality check of their status as a big club when they finished eighth in the Premier League.
As a result, the club needs a revamp of the first-team squad. So far the club have done fantastic business in acquiring Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and (almost) Ben White.
All three proved realistic targets.
But someone like the £70m-rated Martinez is an unrealistic move for Arsenal this summer. Having won a league title and qualified for the Champions League, you’d assume the young striker will have loftier ambition than Mikel Arteta’s men.
There seems next to no chance of tempting him to the Emirates Stadium, so, why target the ace?
