If you thought the move for Ben White was going to go smoothly, think again, this is Arsenal we’re talking about
But, just what has gone wrong?
Arsenal move for White hits a snag…And, it’s not their fault!
Despite seemingly being at the end of the road with regards to a transfer, it’s hit a snag.
No, Arsenal haven’t messed up again, although you wouldn’t put it past them, would you?
Manchester City and Everton have joined the race to sign the talented ace.
The Citizens are thought to have held preliminary discussions over a move for the 23-year-old.
Meanwhile, the Blues are willing to stump up the £50m asking price. As a matter of fact, the England international is said to be impressed by the quickness in which Everton have prepared a bid.
It spells danger for the Gunners with the hierarchy surely quaking in their shoes. Losing out on a player that looked so certain to move to the Emirates Stadium would be a bitter blow.
White has shown glimpses of talent at both Brighton and Leeds
As mentioned above, I’m not the biggest fan of the young centre-back. But, even I can admit he is a talented player.
His spells with Leeds United and more currently, Brighton have shown exactly why a club the calibre of Arsenal are chasing him.
During the Whites’ promotion campaign two seasons ago, the defender was the only player to play every single minute. His injury record is near perfect, a good change of pace for a club, who have injury problems.
But, his endeavours weren’t without ability.
He possessed the highest pass accuracy rating of any regular starter under Marcelo Bielsa. And when you consider the high energy football played by the Argentine’s teams, that’s impressive.
It’s not different to his time with Brighton, where he’s excelled under Graham Potter.
White started 36 of the 38 Premier League games, a near-perfect record, impressing on many occasions.
With two more top-flight giants joining the race, Arsenal need to quicken the pace of their move for White.
