Jack Wilshere has been speaking about his exit from Arsenal from back in 2018.

What’s the story?

In an interview with The Athletic, the England international revealed his regret over leaving the club.

Arsene Wenger had just announced his departure from the club, and Unai Emery was appointed his successor.

Wilshere was out of contract at the end of June, and he’s revealed he was offered a new deal by the Spaniard.

The 29-year-old claims he was left angered by Emery’s comments he would not be in his first XI.

It sparked his search for a new club, after which he joined West Ham. The move to East London failed spectacularly with Wilshere barely featuring and eventually having his contract terminated.

But, with the player a free agent and Arsenal needing a central midfielder, the ace proves a perfect signing for Mikel Arteta.

Here’s why.

Why Arsenal should hand Wilshere a contract?

This summer, the club have already bought Albert Sambi Lokonga to the club.

The talented youngster has shone in each of the opening two Premier League games, even if they have ended up losses.

But, with the African Cup of Nations coming up in January, the club will lose Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey. The need for another midfielder is extremely high because only the Belgian and Granit Xhaka will be left in N5.

There are no viable options right now when you analyse prospective targets.

Houssem Aouar is available, but, his attitude is less than desirable.

Eduardo Camavinga is also available, but, for his price tag and ability is attracting better clubs than the Gunners.

Can you go wrong for a player like Wilshere, on a free transfer?

His injury problems are a thing of the past with the midfielder having been fit since January 2020.

Meanwhile, Arteta knows all about his quality and commitment levels having played alongside him.

Wilshere is the perfect option for the club, especially on a free transfer.
