What does it say about the fans of this club when it’s Captain has to issue a rebuttal to a poorly written and scarcely believable load of rubbish as served up by the Sun this morning, and carried on all the major News outlets and TV channels. I would have preferred that the club said nothing other than to deny the comments through informal sources.
The fact that this poorly translated report got minutes of airtime suggests that no-one decided to research the validity of the statements, and where the source came from. It was a Q&A on Tuesday given before the Spanish equivalent of the Press Association where Cesc gave responses to a wide range of questions. The comments were sensible and what one would have expected from a young Spanish star in South Africa for the Confederations Cup. He is not likely to have rejected returning to the land of his birth in the future would he?
I am angry, for two reasons. One, it gives credibility to the gutter press, and the fact that no libel writs are used in football just encourages this fanciful copy creating. The second is that it effectively calls our Captain a liar, following his last recent statement of loyalty to the club. So why do the media do it? I suspect that is because they know that they will get so called “Arsenal Fans” commenting adversely on their club based on only hear say evidence. This will serve their attempts to write the “Crisis at the Arsenal” headlines due out later this month no doubt.
Shame on those Arsenal fans who queued up on the airwaves to express their frustration about Arsenal in general and Cesc Fabregas in particular. You don’t deserve this club or the heritage or the players as you really are very fickle. This further public statement from our Captain serves only to underline what I have said in previous blogs.
DON’T BELIEVE WHAT YOU READ IN THE MEDIA ABOUT ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB!
It has to be said every summer, and even more often when there is a little to write about. I am disappointed that Cesc felt the need to reaasure fans so quickly. My impression is that real fears were being aired that the Boo Boys would turn upon our young skipper which would only serve to create more negative headlines. The statement in case you have not read the link from Arsenal Football Club is as follows

“I’m not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.
“So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great Club.
“It is a fact that we have not won a trophy for four years and yes, I am angry about that, but that anger stems from the deep deep desire I have to win things with Arsenal. I care about this Club and believe in this team. I
am proud to captain this team and proud to wear the shirt. It really upsets me when people express my thoughts otherwise. The spirit in this squad is fantastic and we have the ability and mentality to compete on all fronts for silverware. Make no mistake, we are focussed and determined to show that we are capable of achieving great things together.”

I have chosen to label all of those doubting Gooners out there as plastics, because at least this will enable them to come to their senses. Why should the players and Club immediately have to issue a rebuttal? It suggests that the relationship between fans and the club is becoming increasingly more tense, or perhaps a little fragile. Ivan Gazidis himself expressed the view that it is good that players are disappointed with coming fourth, but expressed bewilderment at the “Boo Boys”
But I really do have to turn my fury on those gullible, headless chicken mentality Gooners who now have the unenviable tag of PLASTIC from now on. Please go home and change your diapers/nappies now that the fuss is over. Don’t worry, mummy will come and tuck you into bed as you finish the final paragraphs of your tabloid, so put the dummy back into your mouth, and consider supporting Tottenham instead…
