Arshavin

By Paul Williams – The season is beginning to take shape now, everyone has played enough games for the hopes and worries to be well set. So far the season for Arsenal has been generally good. However, we are entering November – a month all Arsenal fans have learnt to worry over.
Today we take on Wolves and all sensible comment would suggest another three points, after all we have only lost 2 games all season and the Manure defeat was, to say the least, undeserved. However, the way we are playing at the moment suggests we will score goals at Molineaux, let’s hope we don’t concede too many.
Despite quite a few injuries already this season going forward we look strong. However, defensively we are still looking quite vulnerable at times. None of the keepers are consistent enough for a top club. Each will have good games and make great saves but then they will do something inexplicable and cost us a goal.
Mannone dropping the cross against Blackburn and Almunia getting wrong footed on Wednesday against AZ are two examples, not to mention the crucial mistake at West Ham where Vito presented the ball to Cole after makinga good save from the free kick (which should never have been given- by the way!) I see Arsene is raving about the young French keeper at Lyons in the press today, I think the CSKA keeper looked very good against united on Tuesday and he is worth watching too.
Song has made an impressive start to the season in the position we all thought needed strengthening. I still think there is no effective cover fro Alex and he can’t play every game- especially since he will be at the African Cup of Nations in January. I’m sure Arsene has players in mind for this position but will he act in January, a month he has often made good signings in – just look at last January, Arshavin – what a player!
Despite my worries I feel we are good enough to fight for the title this year; I think we can finish above both Manchester teams but that we will have to do well in the head to head games to finish above Chelsea. This weekend could be crucial – one or both our main rivals will drop points; let’s make sure we get all three today and put pressure on them tomorrow.
