Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown spoke on BT Sport 1 (12:50 pm, Sunday) about senior Gunners star Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman started against Leicester City on Sunday after failing to get the nod in our last four games in all competitions. He has had an up and down campaign, but he is still our top scorer in the Premier League, and his record away from home really is impressive.

Lacazette has scored five goals and has two assists to his name in his last six away league games. The numbers say that he is having a pretty good season, but there is still a good chance he will be sold this summer.

The former Lyon man will enter the final year of his contract at the end of this season. Arsenal will either have to extend his deal or sell him to avoid losing him for free, and the chances of the latter happening are far more likely considering that he’ll soon turn 30.

That, however, hasn’t stopped Lacazette from performing when he’s called upon. He has been a model professional so far and if Keown is to be believed, he is being a brilliant role model to Arsenal’s young players.

He said just before half-time: “I think Lacazette actually with all these youngsters they really look up to. I am being told that he is great with these players. You need that role model, don’t you, in and around the youngsters?”

Arsenal Insider’s view:

This isn’t the first time someone has come out and labelled Lacazette as a brilliant role model.

Emile Smith Rowe claimed about a month ago that the Frenchman is a huge help to him on and off the pitch. He revealed that Laca keeps talking to him and gives him a lot of confidence whenever they play together. (Read the full story here)

It will be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta hands him a new contract because of good the Frenchman is with the kids. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to keep hold of him, but the Frenchman might have to settle for a lot lesser than £182,063 he is currently earning. (Spotrac)
