Granit Xhaka has enjoyed arguably his best season to date since moving to Arsenal in 2016, and the midfielder was again impressive in Switzerland’s opener for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Facing off against Cameroon, the Arsenal maestro captained Switzerland in a 1-0 win against the African nation as Xhaka enjoyed a solid display for the Rossocrociati. And Gooners on social media were impressed with what they saw from the 30-year-old.
Whilst Xhaka wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet, the midfielder enjoyed a comfortable performance against Cameroon with the Arsenal star playing a similar role to what Mikel Arteta has for the Swiss skipper playing in the Premier League this campaign.

Xhaka has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season in a new role that has seen the midfielder play a more advanced role, resulting in the former Bundesliga star on pace to enjoy his best goalscoring year at club level in his professional career.
And it appears that Xhaka will operate a similar role for Switzerland at the World Cup, with the maestro pushing forward heavily for the Swiss as Breel Embolo’s winner was enough to claim the three points against a quality Cameroon side.
Indeed, Xhakas was the midfield star of the show for Switzerland. And on social media, plenty of Arsenal fans had praise for the north London no. 34 during his first game of the World Cup…
