Sky Sports in Italy revealed earlier this week that Arsenal had approached the agents of AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu with a view of a transfer this summer.

The Gunners are expected to go all out to sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid on a permanent deal this summer. The Norwegian has been a huge hit at the Emirates and he is many fans’ dream signing ahead of the summer window.

However, it will be an extremely difficult deal to complete. Nobody knows what Real Madrid will decide about his future, while there is expected to be a ton of interest in Odegaard from other top clubs in Europe including the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

That complicates things for Arsenal who can’t yet complete with the above-mentioned clubs. Edu and Mikel Arteta will do everything they can to sign Odegaard, but they are preparing alternatives if the Norwegian does not return to the Emirates.

Calhanoglu is among the top of that list and the Turk would be available for free. The 27-year-old’s contract will expire soon and the Gunners are reportedly battling Juventus and Chelsea for his signature.

A natural number 10 who can also play on the left flank, Calhanoglu has had a very good season. He has scored seven goals and has provided 11 assists in all competitions so far, which is a phenomenal record for an attacking midfielder.

Arsenal could really use someone of Calhanoglu’s quality and the fact that he would be coming in on a free transfer makes a potential deal even better. Some fans would really love the Turk at Arsenal, while others aren’t really convinced.
