Goal Brazil revealed on Thursday that Arsenal are interested in signing Olympique Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes this summer.
The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal 18 months ago as well. Edu was really pushing to sign him then, but Lyon beat us to his signature, and he has been a fantastic player for them since.
However, Les Gones have to sell a few of their players this summer to balance their books. The report claims that Lyon have lost over £100 million due to their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

That, combined with the financial impact of the global pandemic, is causing real issues for them at the moment, and Arsenal are reportedly looking to take advantage of the situation by making a move for Guimaraes.
The report claims that Lyon are willing to sell their star midfielder for a bid in excess of £30 million. That figure should not be a problem for Arsenal, especially if we manage to get anything close to £20 million from Granit Xhaka’s potential sale to AS Roma.
Guimaraes would be an excellent addition to our squad. He is brilliant with the ball at his feet, is a powerful runner and is very good in tight spaces. He has been really good for Lyon over the last 18 months, and the fact that he is still only 23 means that he will only get better in the coming years.

Arsenal’s priority target, as widely reported, is Manuel Locatelli. (Read here) The Gunners are still trying, but it looks unlikely. As a result, Edu has reportedly identified Guimaraes, and he would really be a fantastic signing for us this summer.
