Arsenal fans can be really excited about their next generation of talent. Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Joe Willock and Eddie Nketiah among others have shone in the first-team already, but there are others impressing out on loan.

One such player is Mark McGuinness. The young Irish central defender joined our academy as a 10-year-old and everyone at the club rate him very highly.

McGuinness joined League One side Ipswich Town on a season-long loan deal in the summer. He has played 13 times for the Tractor Boys already and has earned rave reviews for his performances at the back.

McGuinness played a key part again for Ipswich in their game against Burton earlier this week. The 19-year-old helped his side pick up a 2-1 win at home, but for once, his solidity in defence wasn’t what caught everyone’s eye.

Arsenal fans have come across a video compilation of McGuinness bringing his inner Zinedine Zidane out. The 6ft 3in defender showed incredible composure on the ball to dribble his way past a number of players on multiple occasions.

The future of Arsenal’s defence?

Arsenal’s defence has been a hot topic for pundits over the years. We have had our fair share of problems at the back, but our future certainly looks bright.

William Saliba, Daniel Ballard and McGuinness have immense potential, while Gabriel Magalhaes – already a first-team star – is still only 22.

McGuinness still has a long way to go but the early signs are extremely positive. Mikel Arteta loves a defender who is good with the ball at his feet. That video would have impressed the Arsenal boss, and he might take a closer look at the teenager once he is back in the summer.

Arsenal fans were truly wowed by McGuinness’ skill and composure. Here’s how a few of them reacted to the video on Twitter.
