According to The Sun, Arsenal are in talks with Miguel Azeez over a new long-term contract at the club.
The teenager is viewed by many as one of our finest academy prospects. He made his senior debut in the Europa League against Dundalk last year, and although he was only given seven minutes, he impressed one and all.
A few minutes after he came on, he sent two Dundalk players to the shops with a sublime turn. (Watch here) Arsenal fans were simply stunned by that bit of skill, and everyone demanded Arteta to give him more game time with the senior squad.
Azeez’s contract ends this summer
Arsenal are arguably the masters of mismanaging players’ contracts. We love letting players enter the final year of their deals for some reason, and we just can’t seem to learn from our mistakes.
We’re on the verge of letting Folarin Balogun leave for nothing. We did the same with Aaron Ramsey, while we allowed Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to run their contracts down, and then paid them humongous wages to renew them.
We’ve now let Azeez enter the final few months of his contract and Arsenal fans can only pray that Arteta and Edu can convince him to stay.
Better late than never
Arsenal are reportedly deep in talks with Azeez and his representatives over a new deal.
The midfielder has been with us ever since he was five years old, and he would always have dreamt of making it at his boyhood club. That might just help Arsenal get his signature, but it’s about time we learn from our mistakes and sort players’ contracts out before we get to this stage.
