Some Arsenal fans want Albert Sambi Lokonga to start against Brentford after seeing how good he was against Watford yesterday.

The Gunners faced the Hornets behind closed doors at London Colney. Mikel Arteta’s men picked up a convincing 4-1 victory, and the Belgian’s performance was arguably the most discussed topic after the game.

Lokonga, signed for £18 million earlier this month (Goal), made his debut against Milwall last week, and although he was only on the pitch for a few minutes, he showed some good signs. His performance against Watford, however, showed his class, and Arsenal fans are really impressed.

Arsenal fans want Lokonga to start against Brentford

Arsenal take on Brentford on the opening day of the new Premier League season in two weeks time. It’s always tricky to play a newly promoted side early in the campaign, but Arteta’s men have to be prepared.

The Gunners are on the market looking for a new central midfielder, but nothing’s progressing just yet. With just 15 days left for the new season, it is unlikely that we’ll bring someone new in, which is a slight concern.

Arteta will have a decision to make in the middle of the park. Thomas Partey is a guaranteed starter, while we believe Mohamed Elneny will get the nod alongside him.

However, after a stunning performance yesterday, many Gooners want to see Lokonga get a start against Brentford on the opening day.

The 21-year-old’s composure and quality on the ball combined with his ability to progress the play effortlessly is an excellent trait. It’s not wise to rush him into the Premier League, but Arteta has always given opportunities to those who deserve it, and Lokonga certainly does.
