Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea yesterday and Tammy Abraham, a player who Mikel Arteta reportedly wants at the Emirates, scored the winner.

The Gunners are on the market looking for a new number nine. There’s a good chance that Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will leave the club this summer, and Arteta will need to bring in a new striker to replace them.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun will all be at Arteta’s disposal, but they’re all fairly similar. Arsenal need to consider signing a target man, and Abraham checks that box.

Have Arteta and Abraham dropped a transfer hint?

The Sun revealed last month that Arsenal were leading other English clubs in the race to sign Abraham on loan, while The Athletic claimed that we’ll only make a move for him if we can offload Lacazette and Nketiah.

Abraham, as he showed with his goal yesterday, is a good striker. He’s fairly quick, is a nuisance to defenders, can bring others into play, and is excellent in the air as well – something that none of Arsenal’s attackers are.

The Englishman would be a decent signing for us, and Arteta and Abraham shared a little moment after the game that has got a few fans talking. The Arsenal boss shook the striker’s hand and both men shared a cheeky smile soon after, hinting that yesterday probably wasn’t the first time they’ve been in contact.

Some fans think Abraham will join Arsenal

Arsenal fans are convinced that Arteta and Abraham shared more than just a handshake yesterday. It really did look like the pair had some sort of a connection, which is crazy as they’ve never been a part of the same side before.

We may well be reading too much into this. It could well have been a normal handshake after a good game, but we are Arsenal fans and we’re the kings of transfer theories.

Here’s how a few Gooners reacted to the clip on Twitter.
