Arsenal were linked with a move to sign Sevilla wonderkid Bryan Gil a few months ago, but it looks like Tottenham have won the race for him.
Mundo Deportivo revealed back in February that Arsenal and Barcelona are battling to sign the 20-year-old this summer. The report claimed that Gil had a release clause of £30 million in his contract, and any club interested in his services would have to pay that fee.
The rumours about Arsenal and Barca’s interest cooled down and almost everyone felt that the versatile attacker would spend next season in Seville. However, Spurs have shocked the world today and some Gooners are slightly annoyed.
Arsenal fans aren’t happy as Bryan Gil closes in on Tottenham move
Fabrizio Romano revealed today that Sevilla and Spurs are finalising a deal that would see Gil join Tottenham and Erik Lamela move the other way. The La Liga side will also make about £22 million plus add ons, which is a decent return for them.
Spurs might have slightly overpaid here considering that Gil is still only 20 and has less than two years left on his contract. However, the youngster is a fantastic talent, and if everything works out for him, he could end up being a fine player for Tottenham in the years to come.
