Arsenal fans will be spared further suffering this week with the international break kicking off this week. And Matteo Guendouzi has already played his way back into the France squad.
RMC Sport report that the Arsenal midfielder, who is out on loan with Olympique Marseille, has been called up the Les Bleus after N’Golo Kante and Corentin Tolisso dropped out of the squad due to injury.
Guendouzi has been a regular for France at youth level over the years and was even captain of the U-21 side in this summer’s UEFA U-21 Euros.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
The midfielder was selected for the senior side in September 2019 after an injury to Manchester United star Paul Pogba. However, the 22-year-old was an unused substitute.
Indeed, Guendouzi has not been part of the senior France side since then. However, since joining Marseille, the midfielder has impressed Didier Deschamps enough to replace the likes of Kante.
With the former FC Lorient star impressing for one of France’s top sides, Arsenal fans have been envious of Guendouzi and his successes with Marseille.
After all, the midfielder was one of Arsenal’s best performing players under Unai Emery. Yet since the arrival of Mikel Arteta, Guendouzi has had few opportunities to impress the Basque manager.
And on social media, Arsenal fans were fuming with Arteta and Edu with Guendouzi now part of the France national team for this international break.
Here’s what some fans had to say about the news on Twitter…
I really hope he comes back next season along with Saliba to replace the likes of Xhaka, Elney, Rob Holding and Chambers
