Thomas Partey has been a huge miss for Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side have struggled in midfield without the Ghanaian, but the Gunners have finally managed to get results without their marquee summer signing.
After a fairly comfortable win over Chelsea last weekend, Arsenal were made to work hard by Brighton yesterday. The Seagulls’ low block in the first half made it almost impossible for us to penetrate the ball into the final third.
Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny were slow and predictable in midfield. That made it a poor first half for the Gunners. But, one Brighton player was so good that he convinced Arsenal fans that Arteta should be making a move for him.
Yves Bissouma was Brighton’s best player in the first half last night. The Mali international dominated the midfield and his performance put Arsenal’s two midfielders to shame.
TalkSport claimed earlier this month that Arsenal are interested in signing Bissouma in January. If last night was an audition, it is safe to say that the midfielder passed his test with flying colours.
Bissouma would be perfect next to Partey
Arsenal supporters have been crying out for a dominant midfield duo since Patrick Vieira and Gilberto Silva left the club. We are yet to fully replace the two club legends, but signing Bissouma could change that.
We all know that Partey is more than just a defensive midfielder. He has the ability to drive with the ball into the final third and have a real impact in attack. However, the Ghanaian cannot do that if he’s paired up with someone like Xhaka or Ceballos who aren’t great defensively.
Bissouma would be the ideal partner for Partey in the middle of our park. The Brighton man can act as the destroyer in midfield and that will allow our summer signing to join the attack.
Bissouma’s performance last night really impressed Arsenal fans. Many have urged Arteta to sign him next month or in the summer to bring the best out of Partey at the Emirates.
