Arsenal returned to winning ways yesterday with a fantastic display against Leeds United. The Gunners absolutely battered the visitors, scoring four times before the 50th minute.
Mikel Arteta’s men could have easily scored three or four more goals, and despite a late show of intent from Leeds, we were the better side and deserved all three points.
Leeds’ Ezgjan Alioski, in particular, would’ve hated last night’s result. The Macedonian had a lot to say last week about how he just couldn’t wait to play against his ‘mate’ Nicolas Pepe. (Read here)
The Leeds United full-back got the Ivorian sent off in the reverse fixture in November. Alioski went down like he was hit by a train after Pepe leaned his head into the defender who was winding him up the whole game.
He became enemy number one after what happened at Elland Road, but his comments leading up to yesterday’s game increased the animosity between our supporters and him.
It is safe to say, that war is now over – even though Pepe didn’t step on the pitch yesterday.
Bukayo Saka toyed with Alioski
Alioski loved annoying Pepe but he won’t dare try to do the same with Saka. The young Englishman toyed with the Leeds defender at times yesterday and Marcelo Bielsa saw enough and took him off after 52 minutes.
The best part about the substitution was when the Macedonian had to walk past Pepe with his head down. There was no winding up this time around, and although the Ivorian didn’t react in any way, shape or form, he would surely have felt good seeing that.
Arsenal fans had their say on social media about the incident. Many urged Alioski to stay humble now after Saka clearly had a field day against him at the Emirates last night.
