Kido Taylor-Hart has signed a new long-term contract and some Arsenal fans believe academy boss Per Mertesacker deserves a lot of credit for getting this done.
Our academy is a key part of our football club. We’ve all seen the impact made by the likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka, and it’s only a matter of time before we have a few more Hale End graduates shine in the first team.
Arsenal’s academy is among the best in the world and that has attracted a ton of eyes on our young talents. Many clubs, from England and abroad, are ready to pounce if there’s any sign that a player could become available.
Taylor-Hart was certainly one of them, and Arsenal fans feared that he could be on his way out. However, Mertesacker, Edu and everyone involved behind the scenes convinced the teenager to stay, and that is excellent news for us.
The 18-year-old played 30 games in all competitions for our youth sides and ended the campaign with 16 direct goal contributions. That is an outstanding record for someone who was used in five different positions throughout last season.
Keeping hold of Taylor-Hart is a big win for Arsenal, and academy boss Mertesacker deserves a ton of credit. There has been a ton of changes behind the scenes, but the BFG has stayed calm and has managed to work his magic.
Arsenal fans, predictably, were delighted to see Taylor-Hart pen a long-term deal. However, it was Mertesacker who received a ton of love from Gooners, and he deserves nothing less.
