Arsenal surprised everybody today by announcing that we have signed Maty Ryan from Brighton on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Everybody knew that we were on the market looking for a backup to Bernd Leno. Alex Runarsson has proved to be a poor signing and reports claimed recently that he will be leaving the club on loan this month.
All of expected that to happen first before we signed a new goalkeeper, but Arsenal have given us a good little surprise.
Ryan comes in with bags of experience having played over 400 games for club and country. He has made 121 appearances in the Premier League as well which makes him a brilliant option for us.
Leno’s injury last season showed just how important a backup goalkeeper is. Emiliano Martinez came in and saved our season. He played a massive part in helping us win the FA Cup and the Community Shield, and the same will be expected of Ryan if he has to come in for the German.
Ryan knows Arsenal very well by the looks of things. He claims that the Gunners are the first team he ever loved, and it is always brilliant to see a Gooner represent our club.
Arsenal fans, predictably, were stunned to see the announcement on Twitter. There wasn’t a single rumour about this which really is rare considering that the media almost always know everything these days.
