Arsenal choosing to target Aaron Ramsdale over Andre Onana has infuriated fans over the last few weeks, but there could be an exciting twist in the tale now.
The Guardian revealed last month that Edu has had two bids rejected for Blades star Ramsdale. The report labelled the Englishman as our top goalkeeping target this summer, and that hasn’t gone down too well with Arsenal supporters.
Yes, Ramsdale is a young, talented Englishman with a home-grown status that Arsenal are looking for. Everyone in the game speaks very highly of him as well, but he has been relegated in each of his last two seasons, and that is seemingly a big concern for Arsenal supporters.
The real frustration for fans isn’t necessarily the fact that we’re trying to sign Ramsdale. It’s because we’re willing to spend a lot of money on the Englishman when someone like Andre Onana is reportedly available for a fraction of the same fee.
It really did look like Arsenal had missed a big opportunity as Onana closed in on a move to France to join Lyon. However, if a latest report is to be believed, the Gunners might just have another chance to make a move for the Cameroonian.
Arsenal target Onana rejects Lyon move
According to De Telegraaf, Onana was one step away from joining Lyon, but he pulled out at the last minute. The report claims that he has received an offer from a bigger unnamed club, who are now understood to be leading the race for him.
The Dutch outlet doesn’t disclose the identity of the new club in question, but they have claimed that Arsenal were a ‘serious candidate’ in the past.
That, predictably, has got some Gooners talking. It is no secret that most of us would love to see Edu make a move for the Ajax star, and with Lyon seemingly out of the race, Arsenal supporters truly believe we have a chance to sign him in the coming weeks.
